Pirates Gold Slot Review
We had an absolute blast writing our Pirate’s Gold slot machine review, spending several happy hours upon the high seas searching out valuable winning opportunities. This is a game that brilliantly captures the unbeatably illicit feel of some of the classic early slots, keeping your heart racing for as long as you can stand the heat.
Pirates Gold Theme
There’s nothing fancy or overblown about the theming on this game – which is just as it should be for a slot as traditional as this one. We loved the casino floor background and authentic console display, both of which suited the mean-looking, machete-wielding central character displayed above the reels. We also love that the reels are cleverly-encased in a barrel-style display area. It’s all deliberately lo-tech, and all the better for it.
On the reels themselves, you’ll find various pirate-themed symbols, including cutlasses, treasure chests and treasure maps. It’s great to see that despite the simplicity of this slot, netent haven’t just relied on generic symbols, which is something found at many other classic slots out there. The symbols certainly aren’t extravagant however, meaning they fit with this slot’s basic look and feel.
Betting Options
Unlike most netent slots you are able to select the number of paylines you play on this game. We based most of our review on a session with all 9 paylines activated, though, and with a minimum bet level of $0.10 per payline that meant $0.90 a spin. You can, though, play larger coin values – up to $1 per line, in fact – which means spins of up to $9 are available when all paylines are selected.
Coin size selections are made using the panel below the game itself, whilst the number of paylines played is set by hitting the Single Lines button which increases 1 payline at a time – or by hitting the Max Bet button which will activate all 9 paylines automatically for you. Your coin value is shown on a classic 80s style red LED display to the right – another authentic touch that we loved.
Bonus Features
Don’t expect to find typical video slot-style wilds and scatters here as at the Wild West Gold slot. At first glance everything’s far simpler. However, should you spin 3 gold coins on an active payline you’ll trigger a battle feature – something you’ll not even see that often on one of the most complex slots on the market. At this point you’ll be taken off to the Seven Seas, where you’ll take part in a ferocious sea battle.
Using the three buttons, you’ll need to move the cannons and sink an enemy ship. This will lead to you winning a payout worth up to 100x your bet. If you can hit a ship with a golden key, you’ll advance to a second bonus round, during which you’ll need to help the parrot to unlock one of the five different treasure chests. Once you’ve unlocked a chest, you’ll win a cash prize. It’s seriously compelling stuff, and we had an absolute blast on this feature several times before dragging ourselves away to write up our Pirate’s Gold review.
Pirates Gold Maximum Win
Get 5 treasure chest symbols on a payline while playing the Pirate’s Gold slot and you’ll win a haul of 10,000 coins. So, at the maximum $1 coin level, a $10,000 prize is available to be won. After that you’d never need to steal money on the high seas again – though you would be able to charter a yacht or two in some very exotic destinations.
Is Pirates Gold Worth Playing and Who Should Play It?
If you’re a fan of classic slots, then Pirate’s Gold is certainly worth playing. In fact, we’d have to say that this is one of the best classic slots out there. This is also a slot that’s worth playing for anyone who enjoys slots with high RTPs, as this game has a return-to-player of 97.30%, which is exceptionally impressive.
If you love the style of old-style Vegas floor slots but want something a little more complex than most games that fall into that category, then Pirate’s Gold is a must-try. You’ll also love it if you enjoy battle sequences. Not many games have this, though Playtech’s branded Rocky slot was perhaps the best example, and if you liked that game then you’ll enjoy this one.
