Windy City Slot Review
We’ve already paid the Windy City a visit to get a feel for the place, though you won’t need to risk walking its bullet hole-ridden streets to find out what it’s all about. Think of this Windy City slot machine review as your very own speakeasy, where you’ll get all the lowdown without even having to buy us a drink.
Windy City Theme
As you’ll have guessed, this is a Prohibition-era game, set in Chicago during its glory days. The iconic State Street is used as a backdrop, with the art deco-style set of reels using the 3 main characters for its high-value symbols. These are followed by a crate of illicit booze, and then the traditional poker symbols – which in this game don’t feel remotely generic, given that high stakes poker was particularly popular among US gangsters in the 1930s.
Mention must be made, however, of the superbly crafted soundtrack on offer here. Endorphina are generally excellent at providing great musical accompaniment for their games, but even by their high standards they’ve knocked the ball out of the park with this one. A carefully composed set of piano bar numbers are used to great effect throughout, with different tunes used when you spin, or score different types of wins. It’s the kind of attention to detail that didn’t go unnoticed by us when we wrote this Windy City review and helps to make a great game even better.
Betting Options
Those who like to play for low stakes will be happy to find that the minimum bet at Windy City is just $0.01. The maximum bet is $100, which will be more than enough to keep everyone other than the highest rollers happy. Bigger bets are riskier, but give you the chance to win more money, so you’ll have to weigh risk versus reward when deciding how much to bet at this slot.
To choose how much to bet, you’ll need to first choose how many paylines to have active. This is done simply by clicking the “Lines” button in the bottom left of the screen. You can then use the two buttons to the right of the “Line” button to set your bet amount. You won’t need to keep setting how much you bet, as the game will remember how many paylines are active and how large the bet is for all following spins, until you choose to alter them or close the game.
Bonus Features
When the boss man finds out what’s been going on, he’s going to be pretty angry, so it seems appropriate that he doubles up as the wild symbol in this game, substituting for all other symbols except the scatter symbol.
The scatter at this slot is the pricey-looking car. It won’t be worth much once it’s riddled with bullets, but what do we care when there’s money to be made? Land 3 or more of these and you’ll get 10 free spins, with all wins paying exactly as they would in the base game. During the free spins, the scatter turns into another wild symbol.
This slot also has a Gamble option. This is offered after every payline win and lets you decide whether you want to beat the dealer or not. Five random cards are dealt face down with the dealer’s card face up. If you want to choose a card and try to beat the dealer, you’re welcome – and you’ll double your winnings if you do. Guess incorrectly though and you’ll lose everything you’ve just won. You’ll be given this chance up to 10 times as long as you keep winning.
Windy City Maximum Win
The most you can win per payline at this slot is 500x your total bet, and this is won when you manage to get five mob boss symbols on an active payline. For those playing at the highest stakes, 500x the bet is an impressive $50,000. There’s more though, as you can increase this prize using the Gamble feature, if you dare risk the tens of thousands of dollars you’ve just managed to win!
Is Windy City Worth Playing and Who Should Play It?
Windy City is a slot that’s absolutely worth playing. The theme is a great one, while the game looks and feels fantastic. What’s more, the prizes can be exceptionally large, if you’re brave enough to use the Gamble feature. Overall, this is a game that’s been designed very well, providing huge amounts of fun and excitement to players.
Anyone nostalgic for the long-gone days of true glamour will love this game, as will the vast majority of slot players who want a simple, undemanding game without too many lines to try and keep track of. The Gamble feature will add an extra element of excitement for those who want to take a few chances and live on the edge a little.
